The watermelon radish (also known as Chinese Red Meat) is the perfect candidate for extending your harvest season and enjoying the fruit of your labour during the winter. The watermelon radish can be stored for a very long time, and will soon be your go-to ingredient for adding some fresh garden punch to your culinary creations during the winter.
This magnificent radish always amazes children (and adults alike). Its has a mild and delicately sweet flavour. Slice thinly in salads or cook in gratin. Also great in pickles (lacto-fermented).
We recommend peeling, as this variety is thick-skinned.
The roots can reach up to 10 cm in diameter.
Sow very early in spring (early summer harvest) and/or in mid-late July for a fall harvest (and to store for the winter).
Watermelon radish can be stored for three to four months in the refrigerator, in a perforated plastic bag.
