Latin name: Phaseolus vulgaris
Nonna Agnes Blue is a very rare variety of pole bean from Italy... which I found in Ukraine and planted with great success here in Bic. The beans can be used as dry beans or, if harvested young, as green beans. Excellent for freezing. Produces a magnificent, very ornamental pink flower.
I like to think of the Nonna Agnes Blue as magic beans, because they change colour depending on the temperature. When the pods ripen in cool weather, the beans turn blue; if they ripen in bright sun and heat, then the beans will be grey-blue.
