Our Jerusalem artichoke has been selected for over fifteen years with the aim of making the tuber more regular, less "bumpy", in order to make cleaning more pleasant and eating it easier.

Sow Jerusalem artichoke once in your life and you will have it forever!

This is a very easy perennial to grow, regardless of the soil type. Harvest it once the first night frosts have passed, it will be sweeter. It is also ornamental with its superb yellow flowers in late summer until the end of October.

The plant is said to have spread from the United States to Canada via the First Nations populations. Here, it has been able to acclimatize to our northern climate for nearly five centuries. It was later, at the beginning of the 17th century, that the plant was introduced to France where, during the Second World War, it was an integral part of the diet. Like the rutabaga , its consumption was not requisitioned as part of the compensation to be paid to Germany. Unlike the potato, for example, it was not necessary to spend 'ration tickets' for the Jerusalem artichoke.

453g / 1 lb of fresh, healthy Jerusalem artichoke tubers, carefully selected for fall planting purposes.

Sowing: In the fall (October to November as long as the ground is not frozen)

Sowing depth: 15 cm

Soil: All soil types, add compost when planting in the fall and twice during the summer.

Location: Sun

Spacing between plants: 35 cm

Distance between rows: 80 to 100 cm

Maintenance: Hoe and weed regularly. Earth up the plants when they reach 20 cm high to make them more wind resistant. Water in case of high heat.

Harvest: mid-October when the foliage has faded from the first frosts.

Harvest everything and sort your tubers. Replant the most beautiful tubers immediately. For planting for the harvest the following year, choose the tubers that are the most regular if you want to help preserve this characteristic that we have been working on for several years.

With this method, this cultivar (variety) of Jerusalem artichoke is not at all invasive as one can often read about the plant in the literature on this subject. So, you can absolutely grow it in the garden, without any problem!

453g / 1 lb of fresh, healthy Jerusalem artichoke tubers, carefully selected for fall planting. To assess the yield of your crop, Jerusalem artichokes produce about the same as potatoes.
