Oscar Gonthier Tomato - Seeds - Don't skip over the story!

$5.95

Latin name: Lycopersicon esculentum

The Oscar Gonthier is a very valuable variety due to its history and origin. Very rare tomato. Originally from Drummondville in Quebec and developed by Oscar Gonthier.

He wanted to rediscover the great taste of a cherry tomato (the Ross) that he described as candy in a large tomato (unknown by name) grown in the municipality of Pintendre.

After 12 years of planting these two varieties in the same hole, he got what he was looking for. He stabilized his creation for 3 consecutive years and voilà! - Source, Potager d'Antan.

Mr. Gonthier died at the age of 87, on April 3, 2016 in Drummondville, and left a legacy of his wonderful tomato, a crown jewel of our Quebec seed heritage. Moreover, in 2016, I sent seeds from my own Oscar Gonthier tomato plants to the family in order to perpetuate their family heritage.

The Oscar Gonthier is a very large fleshy tomato with very few seeds and juice, with a texture somewhat resembling an Italian tomato. Excellent fresh, served thinly sliced on a plate with salt & pepper and a drizzle of oil. Equally good for sauces and preserves. Flattened to heart-shaped red fruit. Determinate plant.
