Parsnip 'Halblange' - Seeds
Latin name: Pastinaca sativa var. hallow crown
This variety produces large diameter and long roots, up to 12 inches in length. Young and tender, the roots are delicious raw; in a salad or grated with oil and lemon. Also excellent in soups, stews, stews and vegetable dishes. You can also use it mashed, sautéed, or in fries. The gel enhances the sweet and delicate flavor of the nut.
Sow in very well prepared soil. Good digging is essential. Sow early in early spring. Keep the soil moist until germination (about 3 weeks).
When the young shoots are about 5 cm high, thin them to 8 cm apart. As parsnips germinate very slowly, a few radish seeds can be sown to mark the rows until the parsnips germinate. Harvest in late fall. The gel improves the taste (sugars). You can keep your parsnips in the garden for a long time despite the frost by protecting them with straw.
